 I had this issue on my Leopard machine as well:  "ld: unknown option:
 -no_compact_unwind"
 Removing all references to this in the configure file allowed the build to
 succeed.

 Just for fun I did an uninstall/clean/rebuild with configure.compiler
 =apple-gcc-4.2 -- That worked!
