 flex 2.6.* has the following bug:
 https://github.com/westes/flex/issues/98

 This bug causes a segfault in c++ scanners with multiple buffers - the fix
 has been made in the upstream sources but has not yet been released (2.6.3
 has it); should go into the next release (presumably 2.6.4).

 Note that "make check" fails for flex 2.6.* due to this bug - at least on
 MacOS Sierra with clang++

 Downgrading to flex 2.5.39 solves this problem.
