 Same error (once built). Setting
 {{{
 export LANG=en_US
 export LC_ALL=$LANG
 }}}
 allows it to start up.

 I will try this patch
 <https://trac.macports.org/attachment/ticket/52632/0001-inkscape-Fix-
 crash-on-font-name-style-being-NULL.patch> and see what happens.

 [BTW - will not build with clang-3.9 due to errors around abs() being
 ambiguous. Does build with clang-3.7 (although there are errors there too
 with -fopenmp not being able to find -lgomp that need to be addressed.]
