 Frantastic; it's great to have this working, in good time for the official
 release of QGIS3.

 Could we also try the 3D component? It was merged from https://github.com
 /wonder-sk/qgis3d three months ago:

 "To build with 3D support, set WITH_3D=TRUE in CMake. This will build
 qgis_3d library and a testing executable qgis3d"

 So maybe

 configure.args-append  "-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=${applications_dir}"
 configure.args-append  "-DWITH_3D=TRUE"
