 Ken, that does nothing; apple-gcc-4.2 is the default compiler on Tiger.

 The error message is from /usr/bin/ld. Is it possible that you are using a
 newer ld provided by the MacPorts ld64 port instead?

 Are the people experiencing the problem perhaps still using the +bootstrap
 variant of apple-gcc-4.2? If so, reinstall it without that variant,
 please.
