 We could link #49860 and this report together, though I'm not sure it's
 really the same issue. The reporter there solved it by re-installing Xcode
 - but that was on an upgrade from 10.10 to 10.11. Probably not the same
 root cause for failures on 10.6 - more so because I depend upon clang-3.4
 on older platforms.
