 later, and even if they didn't, MacPorts should have fallen back on
 compiling it on your own system, unless of course you told it not to do
 that.

 Actually it doesn't in the case where an archive is found to exist on the
 server but then fails to download. Build-time dependencies are omitted
 when an archive is known to exist, so building from source wouldn't work.
