 No, and proxies would not explain why it started working after a
 sufficient number of dependencies had been installed manually. If I
 understand the information in ticket 50986 correctly this has been fixed
 in Macports 2.4.0. What irritates me a bit is that "$ sudo port fetch
 gdbm" did not do anything, but I can live with that.
