Comment:

 Contrary to comment 11, I now think the shared mime database should be
 created/updated via a postinstall script on the destination system.  If we
 create the database at installer build time, we might ignore another mime
 type that the user has added on the destination system.  Plus the script
 runs in less than 2 seconds so why not?  See #53351 for a patch to shared-
 mime-info that does this.

 Note that a gtk2 installer may still have problems due to other packages
 it is dependent on.  Both fontconfig and gdk-pixbuf2 also have post-
 activate actions.  See #53350 for a patch that fixes the issue with
 fontconfig.  gdk-pixbuf2 needs a similar patch but this is left as an
 exercise for the reader!  (IOW, I'm working on an installer that also uses
 fontconfig and shared-mime-info but doesn't need gdk-pixbuf2.)
