 Thank you very much. This makes sense. I have no idea why all ports are
 installed with the docs variants, I have never configured it as such
 myself. In fact I would prefer not to have it: I never use the local docs,
 it occupies space, and leads to complications. I will try removing the
 docs variants. does it makes sense to add "-docs" in
 {{{/opt/local/etc/macports/variants.conf}}} ?
