 Probably it is this: https://github.com/GitTools/GitVersion

 It is definitely not part of git, therefore removing this port from the
 port field.

 However, I doubt this is really useful when using a release tarball, as
 the git history will not be available. I would go as far to say that this
 is an error at upstream, because they could check for existence of `.git`
 and not even try to run such a script.
