 thanks, Pete -- I deleted my PR as Marcus went another way with the fix.
 The alternative patch Marcus put through for gcc48 needs to be put to
 gcc47 and gcc46 as well. I'm sure he'll get to it eventually. Then they
 will need similar isl fixes, and you'll be good to go.
