 My explicite reply got lost due to an SSL error, so s short repetition:

 It adds functionality to port, because it can build a zillion of updated
 packages, and saves my time and nerves when I do not have to list all the
 updated packages that might hopefully build today.

 BTW, I heard or rather read the rumour that it is possible to programme
 Portfile in a way that different values are applied for use in different
 operating system versions. So old SL with its incomplete ACL support will
 have to wait until the next release when the source will be prepared for
 that incomplete mac OS.
