 I wasn't aware that there was a way to test a port locally. I found some
 instructions at https://trac.macports.org/wiki/howto/PatchLocal, but
 perhaps
 https://guide.macports.org/chunked/project.contributing.html#project.contributing.updates
 could suggest something explicitly?

 I'll attach a new patch in a moment, with updated checksums. It builds and
 runs locally for me.
