Comment (by teoric):

 The same seems to apply to all the packages required by `+full`, but not
 the ‘medium’ installation. (I installed the medium installation
 successfully if inadvertently.) It is also not able to install from source
 only. (Evidently, packages like `texlive-lang-chinese` that depend on
 other, uninstallable packages like `texlive-lang-cjk` fail anyway.)
