 gcc7 has 1000 unexpected failures on PPC, gcc6 has 260, out of about
 250,000 tests in total. so gcc6 is somewhat more reliable, but the
 percentages are small in the end.

 I would leave the default compiler as gcc6 for now on PPC, myself, esp for
 the cxx11 portgroup.

 gcc7 will turn up more compiler errors due to increasing strictness, has
 more failures, and so far, no benefit I know of.
