 Also see [ticket:54949]. The issue is bootstrapping with xcode9. It's
 probably fixable with some work, or else could be made to work by
 bootstrapping with something like gcc6, if there is a true need.

 For today, if you need it and you don't mind through some hoops, you might
 installing gcc6 or gcc7 and building gcc48 using that. `sudo port install
 gcc7`, then (after editing the highsierra blocker out of the portfile)
 `sudo port -v install gcc48 configure.compiler=macports-gcc-7`. There is a
 chance that might '''just work'''.
