 Yep, I'm getting the same problem now too.  Changing the LANG variables
 now have no effect.  My terminal and crashlogs are identical to wilya7.
 My system info:

 ~> sw_vers
 ProductName:    Mac OS X
 ProductVersion: 10.13.3
 BuildVersion:   17D102
 ~> sudo port version
 Version: 2.4.2
