 I am not near my PPC machines at present, so I can't double check this for
 you just now.

 I can see that the only difference between the build lines on the `host-
 darwin.o` files is indeed the `-gtoggle` directive, as you noted.

 I can also see that the `-gtoggle` directive is applied due to the
 `--with-build-config=bootstrap-debug` addition <https://github.com/gcc-
 mirror/gcc/blob/master/config/bootstrap-debug.mk>.

 This was added to fix an error bootstrapping with `clang`. I would hazard
 a guess that if you deleted that line from the configuration, you might
 have success.

 At present, I do not know why this is showing up just now and not before
 now.
