 I see what you mean, though -- mpv does a really good job of playing
 videos from youtube and CNN. I couldn't get some sites to work -- they use
 the Akamai player -- but it's useful.

 Turns out you just need the command line `mpv` to make all this work, so
 the lack of a GUI version doesn't affect the success of this.

 I have not yet get the Firefox extension to work automatically -- I can so
 far only copy the URL from the website, and use mpv to view it.
