 I don't know if the ABI will be different. Looking at the code, there seem
 to be `#ifdefs` that say, effectively, "if C++11, do this; if Windows, do
 this; if something else, do this". In some cases there appear to be half a
 dozen different implementations of the same code, depending on what
 capabilities the system has for accomplishing it.
