#55674: Latex `powerdot' output not covering the entire page

As the title suggests, when using the `powerdot` package to generate
slides with latex, then, for some reason it has stopped generating output
that covers the entire page of the output. I follow the procedure that I
used to follow in the past; that is, `latex`, `latex`, `dvipdf` in order
 to generate the document.

I attempted to open the dvi file with Okular at work and it appears that
the file has an incorrect structure already there. So, my initial guess is
that this is not an issue of the `dvipdf` command, but rather of the
 `latex` command.

Attached a minimal file that exhibits this incorrect behavior. I am
running MacPorts 2.4.2 on 10.13.2 mac OS. Below I indicate that the port
is `textlive-latex` but I am not entirely sure if this is the right port
 to refer to.
