 I upgraded to 3.0.2 and I still see the identical problem.  If I try to
 use any file open dialog, qgis3 just crashes.  It only works to open a
 recent project.  And that seems to always show the dialog for some bad
 layers.
 I did see this ticket https://trac.macports.org/ticket/56169 that suggests
 that someone can get it to run, and that the kyngchaos binary does work.
 So, the problem likely relates to some library issue.
