 I'm not a java expert; backups are always a good idea, etc.  However, I
 understand that java is designed to accommodate multiple versions being
 installed and active at once.  My system has Java 6 and Java 8 installed
 with no apparent ill effects.

 Please let me know if you are unwilling to proceed and I'll close the
 ticket as "unverified".
