Comment:

 We don't know how. Versions of gcc newer than 8-20170604
 [https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=82092 do not build for us]
 and the developers do not respond to inquiries about the problem. Homebrew
 has managed to update gcc to 8.1; I don't know how they accomplished that
 given the problems we experience.
