 I can confirm the workaround in #57358#comment:11 worked for me. I
 installed petsc with these variants:
 {{{
 port -u install petsc +gfortran -mpich +openmpi +sundials -accelerate
 +openblas
 }}}
 where I already had openmpi-default +gcc8 installed.
