 Build from scratch (on 10.11--10.13) started failing to configure, and
 therefore to build, between 28th and 30th August.  Log attached, but
 here's the top bit:

 This happened while I was on a week's leave, and nobody's logged into the
 build systems recently, so they appear to have been untouched.  OS fully
 up-to-date.
