 Looks like that advice didn't work, sorry for not trying it before
 spouting off. I'm not sure if this can be overridden or if it's a hard
 error, but it's not trivial anyway:

 $ sudo xcode-select --switch
 /Volumes/4TBSSHD/Disk_Images/Xcode_related_files/xcode_833/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

 $ sudo port -v install gcc48
 Error: The installed version of Xcode (8.3.3) is too old to use on the
 installed OS version. Version 9.3 or later is recommended on Mac OS X
 10.13.
