 You're correct, twain-sane cannot be compiled for x86_64. The reason is
 that it uses Carbon, an obsolete Apple API that does not support x86_64.
 As far as I can tell, MacPorts contains the very latest version of twain-
 sane that exists. If you want twain-sane to be compilable for x86_64,
 you'll have to report that to the developers, and they'll have to rewrite
 it so that it no longer uses Carbon.
