 I had worked out the final reduction from `{{{}}}` to `{}` ... but I still
 couldn't get the first 2 sets to work ... maybe I did & somehow overlooked
 it? Anyway I can test this when I'm back to work Monday. Would be really
 nice to have a generic solution!
