Comment:

 There are quite a few other ports that depend on dbd-mysql and did so
 before the Myth ports came along.  Changing the default variant would push
 the problem to them.  On the Myth wiki, there have been clear instructions
 how to install the port and specify the required variants.  However, note
 that most people use a .dmg installer that I built and therefore don't run
 into this issue.

 Closing as won't fix.
