 Josha,
 Based on my understanding of your comment, it appears that the MacPorts
 version of perl has a list of standard directories built in and it's not
 possible to change that list. That is different from the behvior I've seen
 in perl when I installed it from other sources, which is why this behavior
 surprised me.
