 This appears to be a [https://github.com/nco/nco/issues/108 known and
 resolved issue] with NCO 4.7.7 with netCDF 4.6.2:

 Discussion at above link suggests it is fixed with NCO 4.7.8 and later.

 Therefore, a suggested potential fix to this ticket is version bump of NCO
 to 4.78 or later (latest stable release as of this post is NCO 4.7.9)
