Comment:

 As I said, I am not able to reproduce the problem.

 $ sudo port clean --all kerberos5
 $ sudo port fetch --no-mirrors kerberos5
 --->  Fetching distfiles for kerberos5
 --->  Attempting to fetch krb5-1.17.tar.gz from
 http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/dist/krb5/1.17/
 $ sudo port checksum kerberos5
 --->  Verifying checksums for kerberos5
 $
 }}}

 Perhaps there is a network problem between the user and the MIT server.
 Perhaps one of the reasons in wiki:FAQ#checksums applies.
