 What I'm asking for is including the Xcode clang in that check, and making
 it possible for the user to request that the Xcode clang is selected if
 it's installed. Better yet, do this by default - use Xcode clang if it's
 installed, unless the user explicitly requested something else.

 Yes, that makes sense. Allow the user to specify this non-standard
 variant, even if it's a devel version.
