 Yep, weird indeed.

 I cleared the (OpenSSL) error stack before calling `RAND_seed()` and
 checked it afterwards - the seeding operation seems to really also fail. I
 don't understand why `RAND_status()` would return `1` in this case, but
 aside from that, something seems to be really messed up.

 I can only guess at this point, but my best guess would be that this is
 related to sandboxing or privilege dropping.

 It really doesn't happen in debug mode - the OpenSSL error stack remains
 empty.

 I'll test disabling the sandbox and privilege separation tomorrow (if
 that's even possible).
