 @Ryan,

 I'm withdrawing my suspicion that my `out-of-memory` issues are related to
 anything that you've done with the php libraries. I just did a side-by-
 side comparison of MacPorts PHP 7.3.11 and Ubuntu PHP 7.3.11... same
 application, same code, but a different number of database records being
 decrypted. I'm seeing a similar memory consumption on both systems. So it
 seems that I may have just hit a threshold on my local dev system.... more
 records than the production system has, and that threshold is causing the
 out-of-memory errors.
