 It takes only a few minutes, and you don't have to uninstall anything.

 Clone the current base repo, and install from there, like this (from
 memory):
 {{{
 cd ~/Downloads
 git clone https://github.com/macports/macports-base.git
 cd macports-base
 ./configure && make && sudo make install
 make clean
 }}}

 and you're on your way.

 If you're using my `/opt/bootstrap` SSL enhancement method, don't forget
 to add those configure args. If you don't know what I'm talking about,
 that's a topic for another day.
