 A fix for this has just been pushed through
 [2e46a05404462e04930b612ed29d9f08ece64603/macports-ports]. You indeed
 found an error, and Chris has fixed it.

 Many ports will not build just now, but if you wait for that propogate
 through, sync, and then give it a go you should be OK.

 Thanks for finding this -- it took a while for everyone to see what was
 wrong.
