 OK, before I post the results, I need to clear up one thing. I *did*
 manage to {{{port upgrade outdated}}} 10 days ago by disabling
 {{{hfscompression}}}. If that makes my answer useless, then I apologize,
 but I don't know how to go back to the state before I did {{{port upgrade
 outdated}}}. Having said that, here's what happens currently.
 {{{
 $ port deactivate bsdtar
 Error: port deactivate failed: Image error: port bsdtar is not active.
 $ bsdtar --version
 bsdtar 3.4.2 - libarchive 3.4.2 zlib/1.2.11 liblzma/5.2.4 bz2lib/1.0.8
 liblz4/1.9.2 libzstd/1.4.4
 $ which bsdtar
 /Users/sbasu1/packages/macports/bin/bsdtar
 }}}
