 Yes. If you see lines showing successful fetches from
 packages.macports.org or one of its mirrors followed immediately by
 installation and activation, you got a binary.

 > I had assumed it was building everything from source.

 If you see lines showing failed fetches from packages.macports.org or one
 of its mirrors (or no lines showing attempted fetches from those servers)
 and then lines saying it's fetching, extracting, patching, configuring,
 building, and staging into destroot, that's a build from source.
