 When I built our GTK+3 app against GTK+3 buttons were wrong and I got this
 message in terminal "Gtk-WARNING **: Could not load a pixbuf from
 /org/gtk/libgtk/theme/Adwaita/assets/check-symbolic.svg."
 Only when I installed the port adwaita-icon-theme, this message and was
 gone but the buttons were there.
 AFAIK Adwaita is the default GTK+3 theme, so it's probably safe to say
 that adwaita-icon-theme should be a dependency of GTK+3.
