 Indeed that is why I keep earlier versions of php available in MacPorts.
 Unfortunately, php 7.2 and earlier as shipped by php's developers are
 incompatible with Xcode 12 and later. php 7.3.24 and later and 7.4.12 and
 later are compatible. I would like to backport the fixes to php 7.2 and
 earlier but have not done so yet. Duplicate of #60988.
