Comment (by mascguy):

 Most of this work has been completed, taken care of with additional
 options passed to `configure`. The last remaining remnant originates with
 variant `opencv_contrib`, and may require a one-line workaround in the
 portfile.

 I'll try to wrap this up over the next day or two, and submit a pull
 request for review/comment.
