 Really don't like closing these kinds of issues without doing anything,
 because they will just crop up again and again. Even adding a new symbol
 to the library and using it in the executable will cause the build to fail
 in the not-uncommon event that the old version is installed while
 building. The build system is broken and at minimum upstream should be
 notified.
