Comment:

 The user should be getting created. The [browser:macports-
 ports/databases/elasticsearch/Portfile Portfile] does run the `add_users`
 command.

 /etc/passwd isn't where user accounts are listed on macOS. Try the `dscl .
 -ls /Users` command instead.
