 manipulating Xcode builds is an order of magnitude more complicated than
 most everything else.

 Best luck I've had is setting things up with {{{sudo port patch}}}, then
 opening the Xcode workspace directly with Xcode, changing what needs to be
 changed if you can sort it out, and then diffing the folder to see exactly
 what changed in the guts of the workspace.
