 @Angelo: yes, it's frustrating that this problem prevents other ports from
 updating.

 You ask, "can you explain the workaround (would be useful as patch file)".
 Take a look at comment:5 in this ticket. There are instructions for
 specific lines in the portfile to edit, and a specific edit to make.  It's
 not a patch file, but it is intended to let you make the patch yourself.

 If there's something unclear about comment:5, please let me know and I'll
