Comment (by nortcele):

 The test to detect the presence of a style in the Texlive installation
 that worked before does not work anymore. At least under MacOS 10.12.6
 (MacPorts 2.6.2, Xcode 9.2) with MacTex 2020. I'm still digging into the
 problem.
