Comment (by kencu):

 there were a couple of important gtk3 ports that previously would not
 build +quatrz, which is why I gave up on +quartz...have to see if I can
 find those tickets. quartz is certainly much nicer, if it covers off
 enough of the needed ports, to be sure.
